by Dr. Richard Powers
When pain occurs for most people they are often advised to (or habitually) reach for conventional pain-relieving drugs to relieve their suffering. I’m all about relieving suffering but doing so in ways that do not create new health problems.
Perhaps you don’t know this but Tylenol, Advil, and even safety-coated aspirin, all carry real and significant health risks (compounding over time) when taken as infrequently as once a week. These risks – like gastrointestinal and systemic bleeding, tissue damage, liver failure, confusion, and doubling of the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke – significantly increase as one ages and/or when on prescription medication.
Given the uncertainty around how many doses (and the frequency) of conventional pain relievers is safe to take from person to person—and that the damage is often only detectable after much of it has occurred—minimizing their use is likely a good idea.
Instead of reaching for the more common though harmful pain drugs, choose options that are effective AND safe. Most pain— even chronic pain—can be relieved and potentially resolved through some combination of natural medicine, nutritional support, a few diet and lifestyle changes, and beneficial treatment.
For those experiencing chronic pain, my top recommendations are:
NATURAL MEDICINE
Effective natural medicine (e.g., tablets, creams, and sprays)—as within my PAIN RELIEF Kit—can help alleviate pain by safely reducing inflammation and promoting healing in the body. Each PAIN RELIEF Kit comes with my book, “Your Guide to Pain Relief: Safe and effective pain-relieving strategies.
NUTRITION
Optimizing nutrition—like Omega-3 fats, magnesium, vitamin D, and more—has been demonstrated to relieve pain in deficient individuals, which is far more common than one might expect. You can find these nutrients and much more included within my Foundational Formulas*.
DIET AND LIFESTYLE
Incorporating a more anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle—inclusive of diet, exercise, restorative sleep, postural stretches, and other lifestyle changes—can help lessen pain and dampen chronic inflammation. (Anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle guidelines are detailed in my book, “Your Guide to Pain Relief.”)
TREATMENT
Bodywork—like chiropractic care, acupuncture, myofascial treatment, and low-level cold laser therapy—often corrects the underlying causes of pain by rebalancing the body structurally and/or energetically. Pain relief is often the natural result, even for those experiencing chronic pain.
A final note of hope for those suffering from chronic pain.
Chronic pain can sometimes feel like it will never get better, and in fact, many are told that this is the reality. However, chronic pain can often be relieved and helped and potentially resolved or cured with the support, love, and guidance of an experienced, well-qualified, integrative physician (and ideally also a chiropractic physician) trained in functional medicine.
I have been doing so for decades now and have helped people restore their vitality and lessen their pain, including those with chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto’s autoimmune thyroiditis, diabetes, and more!
Many so-called “uncurable” conditions are generally thought to be so because much of mainstream medicine still believes them to be, as their solutions—although lifesaving at times—rarely address the underlying causes of pain and disease. Big Pharma, Big Business, and Big Marketing perpetuate this illusion, as well as the notion that nonconventional solutions don’t exist.
And yet, although still largely unknown by the masses and most physicians, safe and effective pain-relieving healing strategies for many chronic, “uncurable” conditions do exist, and they do so by facilitating healing and correcting that which is causing your pain and undermining your well-being.
